Police in York Region are looking for witnesses after two school buses were stolen from a parking lot and recovered in nearby ponds in Vaughan, Ont.
On Thursday, officers were called to called to Marita Payne Park, located in the area of Dufferin Street and Clark Avenue West, around 7 a.m. following reports that a school bus was in a pond.
When officers arrived they found a school bus that was still running and was partially submerged in water. They also found a second school bus in a nearby creek.
Investigators said the school buses had been parked overnight in a lot at the Promenade Mall.
Officers determined the suspects broke into the buses and took them for a joyride. One of the buses had been driven through a nearby baseball diamond causing damage to a fenced backstop.
No injuries were reported.
Police are urging anyone that may have witnessed the incidents, or anyone with dashcam footage, to come forward.
