Former head of Canadian military to lead Ontario’s vaccine task force

By News Staff

We now know who will be taking the lead when a COVID-19 vaccine is ready to be doled out in Ontario.

It’s being considered a military-type operation in terms of logistics, so when a vaccine does become available it will be the former head of the Canadian Armed Forces calling the shots on how it gets distributed.

The Toronto Star is reporting that retired General Rick Hillier has been tapped by Doug Ford to lead the provinces new vaccine task force. The premier is expected to make the official announcement today.

The task force will also include doctors, scientists, indigenous leaders and logistical experts.

Sometime between January and March is when Ontario is expecting to get one million doses of the Pfizer vaccines and 800,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine. Each vaccine requires two shots per person to be effective.

The first Americans could be getting vaccinated much sooner.

Dr. Moncef Slaoui, the chief advisor for ‘Operation Warp Speed’ in the U.S. says some could be getting the vaccine by Dec. 11. An estimate of 20 million Americans could be vaccinated by the end of 2020.
