1 person dead, firefighter sent to hospital after house fire near Oakwood-Vaughan

Toronto police said one person was found dead and a firefighter was sent to hospital with minor injuries after a two-alarm house fire in the Oakwood-Vaughan area.
Police said fire crews were called to a home in the Westmount Ave. and Rogers Rd. area around 2 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.
Toronto Fire said the fire started in the basement and spread throughout the home and garage. Crews were met with heavy black smoke and later upgraded it to a two-alarm.
The fire also spread to a neighbouring rooftop but was quickly extinguished.
After the fire was contained, Toronto police confirmed a body had been found inside the home just before 4 p.m.

This is the second fatal fire this week after one person died following a house fire in North York. The blaze broke out just after 5 a.m. Monday on Norton Avenue, near Willowdale and Finch.
It’s unclear what caused the fire.
