York Region Public Health have linked 17 COVID-19 cases to two weddings in Vaughan.

The first wedding was held on Oct. 28 at the Chateau le Jardin and approximately 130 to 140 people attended the wedding. Prior to the wedding, a gathering was held at a home in Markham where 14 people attended. After the wedding, there was another household gathering in Markham that 10 people attended.

Public Health says there was insufficient physical distancing and masking at both the pre- and post-wedding events

The second wedding ceremony was on Oct. 30 at the Paradise Banquet Hall with around 130 people. A private gathering was held prior to the wedding in Ajax where there was insufficient physical distancing and masking.

Of the 17 people who tested positive for the novel coronavirus, 12 people are from York Region and five people are residents of Toronto.

Twelve of the cases attended the pre-wedding event in Markham while 16 of those who tested positive attended the wedding held on Oct. 30.

Nine people who tested positive for COVID-19 attended both wedding ceremonies.

York Public Health say those who attended any of the pre- or post-wedding events on either day are at a high risk of exposure and will be contacted. They are being told to self-isolate for 14 days and monitor for symptoms.

Those who attended either wedding are at a low-risk of exposure as public health says both facilities where the weddings were held adhered to infection prevention and control practices.

Wedding attendees are being asked to self-monitor for symptoms.

Public health said at the time of the weddings, social gatherings were limited to 10 people indoors and 25 people outdoors. The indoor limit for religious services was 30 per cent or less of the capacity of the room.

This is the third large cluster of cases linked to weddings in York Region, including 23 cases linked to four wedding events and 44 cases linked to a wedding in Vaughan.
