Concern growing over impact of COVID-19 on this year’s poppy campaign

By News Staff

There is growing concern about the impact of COVID-19 on this year’s poppy campaign.

Due to the pandemic, the Royal Canadian Legion said veterans, Legion members, and cadets have not fanned out across the city to collect donations in exchange for poppies, and that is raising concern this year’s campaign will raise significantly less money for veterans.

The deputy district commander and poppy chairman for the Legion’s district, covering Toronto, told the CBC not only are they having issues delivering boxes to some stores, but some stores don’t want to take them because of the virus.

There are 250 touchless donation boxes across Canada — which accept touchless donations in $2 increments from any tap-enabled device or card.
