MPP Randy Hillier challenges Ford during anti-mask protest: ‘They want you to be scared’

As more and more anti-mask and lockdown rallies carry on across the City, premier Doug Ford says they’re entitled to protest as long as it remains peaceful.

Joined by MPP Randy Hillier, a group gathered outside Queen’s Park on Wednesday to, once again, challenge the province’s safety measures.

“Here’s a fact. More than 99 per cent are not at risk of COVID. That’s a fact,” Hillier proclaimed outside Queen’s Park.

“Doug Ford has used public opinion to remove our freedom and responsibilities. I’ve challenged [Ford] today to send out Toronto bylaw, send out Toronto police. I am the host. I am the organizer. Yes, I want them to exercise the unlawful laws that he has enacted.”

“That’s why he [Ford] isn’t here today. They want you to be scared,” Hillier said.

The premier, meantime, said protests can happen as long as gatherers don’t get carried away.

“I’ve told people you want to protest come down to Queen’s Park, they’re welcomed to protest. What I do ask, is not to be violent,” Ford said.

“I hear there was a little bit of violence out there today and that’s unacceptable. We live in a democracy, it’s about freedom of speech. If they want to go out there do cartwheels, jump up and down, hold signs up, that’s fine. But violence is where you cross the line.”

Hillier was joined on stage by Peoples Party of Canada leader Maxime Bernier and spoke to a relatively small crowd compared to numbers seen in recent weeks and months.

Onlookers tweeted out that several MPPs, including Hillier, were seen without masks.

Hillier has been vocal with his displeasure of Ontario’s lockdown measures, challenging Ford on several occasions.

Earlier this week, Ford pleaded with protesters to stop showing up at his house every weekend, saying they are impacting the quality of life of his neighbours and scaring their young children.
