Mayor John Tory has announced just under $2 million dollars for community-based agencies and the most vulnerable people affected by the current COVID-19 pandemic.

On Tuesday, Tory announced that approximately $1.9 million in additional funding will be distributed from the ‘TO Supports Investment Fund’ to 33 community-based agencies.

This is the second installment of the City’s commitment to helping people and communities in need.

Back in June, almost $3 million dollars was given to over 50 organizations to help those hardest hit by the pandemic.

As confirmed case counts continues to hit high numbers, Mayor Tory says its time for another cycle of funding to be distributed.

“Approximately $1.9 million dollars in additional funding will be distributed in a second round of grants,” Tory said.

“This is the result of a lengthy process of looking at the grant submissions that have been made and making decisions of where it could be best.”

Almost half of that funding will go to Black-led agencies, with additional dollars also going towards helping Indigenous peoples and the disabled.

The data shows despite the Black community only making up 9 per cent of the population, 23 per cent of current COVID-19 cases in Toronto have come out of that specific section of people.

Tory says a third round of funding could be needed in the coming months.
