A Richmond Hill man is facing impaired driving charges after allegedly crashing a vehicle into a hydro box and fleeing the scene of the collision, York Regional Police say.
Officers were called to the Yonge Street and Gamble Road area of Richmond Hill after 9 p.m. on Oct. 8.
An area resident called 911 saying they had witnessed a vehicle crash into the hydro box and saw the driver run away from the scene.
No one was injured in the incident.
A police helicopter and a canine unit were called in, and the man was located in a ravine area near the scene of the collision.
Police have released aerial footage of the search and the arrest.
The 49-year-old driver has been charged with impaired operation, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and fail to remain.
