Local gyms urging people living in COVID-19 hotspots not to workout in other districts

Some gyms and fitness centres have a clear message: Do not leave COVID-19 hotspots such as Toronto, Peel Region and Ottawa to workout in their select locations.

This comes after long lines were seen at an LA Fitness in Milton in recent days.

This led to GoodLife Fitness issuing a statement on Twitter, urging would-be gym lovers not to leave their own jurisidctions.

“Following the changes introduced by the Ontario Government, has asked Members from Ottawa, Peel, & Toronto not visit other GoodLife Clubs in regions outside of their own during this temporary closure,” the gym tweeted on Wednesday.

“If you’d like, please send a DM with your key tag #. Thx!”

LA Fitness recently sent out a memo to its members urging people from Ontario’s three hotspot regions to stay away from gyms in other areas.

“We don’t support or encourage members from Higher Transmission Areas where our clubs have been closed to use our clubs that are open in other areas,” the fitness centre said in a statement to 680 NEWS.

Ontario announced modified Stage 2 restrictions for Toronto, Peel, and Ottawa last week that included the closure of indoor gyms and fitness centres, as well as yoga and dance studios for at least 28 days.
