Nooses discovered at Michael Garron hospital not being treated as hate-motivated: police

By News staff

Toronto police say the discovery of two nooses at a construction site at Michael Garron Hospital is not being treated as hate-motivated at this time.

EllisDon, the company heading the project, confirmed to CityNews last week that two more nooses were found at the construction site.

Police say they were discovered last Thursday just after 7 p.m.

Back in June, two nooses were discovered at the same construction site on Coxwell Avenue and Mortimer Avenue.

At the time, EllisDon said the nooses were strategically placed and that the act appeared to be racially motivated.

Police say Thursday’s incident is not believed to be connect to any of the previous incidents. The Hate Crime Unit was consulted and at this time, it’s not being treated as hate-motivated.

The investigation is still ongoing.

EllisDon said last week they planned to conduct a full site stand down Friday to address the project team and condemn these actions. “
