COVID-19 outbreak declared following Oshawa wedding

A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at a wedding in Oshawa.
Durham Public Health says there are eight positive cases linked to a September 19 wedding at the Caribbean Cultural Centre on Wentworth Street.
“Durham Region Health Department is urging anyone who attended the wedding to contact the Health Department as soon as possible,” officials said.
“The Health Department is aware that approximately 50 guests and 8-10 staff and volunteers attended this event. As a result of the eight positive cases of COVID-19, an outbreak has been declared at this wedding.”
Public Health is also in contact with two local workplaces but is not revealing which ones.
“It is very important that individuals who participated in this wedding contact us as soon as possible to allow Health Department staff to provide appropriate follow-up.”
The trend of positive infections at weddings is a troubling and contentious one being felt across the GTA.
In early September, York Region Public Health said 23 attendees tested positive for coronavirus after attending a wedding.
Shortly after that, Toronto’s top doctor, Eileen de Villa, said her team was investigating four separate weddings that resulted in a spike in COVID-19 infections.
