Toronto police have closed Bay street from College to Bloor street for a demonstration from activists calling for more action to fight climate change.
A few hundred people have turned out so far for this #FridayForFuture rally at Bay and Wellesley. An organizer tells me they’re calling for significant greenhouse gas controls by 2030, not 2050, as part of a coast-to-coast “We Are Not Going Back” campaign. @680NEWS pic.twitter.com/B46HWLXYIT

A global climate strike is taking place in cities around the world today.
The group called Fridays For Future Toronto says “activists are demanding climate action and a Just Recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.”
It also comes one year after the 2019 climate protests that brought tens of thousands to Queen’s Park.
Police are on scene and say the protest has remained peaceful in nature.
The demonstration which ran for several hours at Bay Street and Wellesley Street West ended around 4 p.m. on Friday afternoon.
