Provincial police in southern Ontario say a 59-year-old is dead after being hit by a car at a race track.

Police say the incident happened on Friday when vehicles were approaching the starting line at a sanctioned racing event at the Toronto Motorsports Park in Haldimand County.

They say the man, who was involved in the event and on foot, was struck by one of the vehicles.

Investigators say he was taken to a local hospital before being airlifted to another hospital out of town.

They announced Tuesday morning that he had died.

Police say they’re still investigating and would like to speak to witnesses.
