Mayor Tory non-committal on Toronto returning to Stage 2

By News Staff

The possibility of another lock down is something people in Toronto are worried about given that the city continues to be a COVID-19 hotspot.

Mayor John Tory spoke to Roz and Mocha of our sister station KISS 92.5 about what we should expect from the government.

“I think they should be prepared for us to really focus hard on these social gatherings,” Tory said on Tuesday.

“People really have to pay attention to those. You can’t just assume that you can have 50 people over. Even though the rule technically says you can have 50 people indoors, is it wise if those 50 people, they can’t be people you’re living with unless it’s a commune, you know, 50 people. Is that a wise thing to do?”

Mayor Tory says he, too, is deeply concerned with the rise of cases across the city. On Monday, Tory said health officials, including top doctor Eileen de Villa, will share daily details around the COVID-19 cases in Toronto.

Of the 251 new COVID-19 cases the province is reporting on Tuesday, 73 of them are from Toronto after 112 new infections were reported one day ago.
