Toronto police say a man was arrested after he was caught by patrons allegedly spiking a woman’s drink after she went to use the washroom.

Officers say they responded to an incident on Sunday, September 6 at a bar located near Adelaide and John Streets.

Police say the woman met the man through use of a dating app and the pair agreed to meet on a date.

It is alleged that while she was away from the table, the man slipped an unknown substance in her drink. Police say when the woman returned concerned patrons warned her not to consume the drink.

On Wednesday, 32-year-old Niki Shakeri of Toronto surrendered to police.

He’s been charged with mischief and administering a noxious substance.

The investigation is ongoing.
