Getting set for a Raptors Game 7

By Alex Bloomfield, Lucas Caseletto

It’s only happened five times before.

The Toronto Raptors will square off with the Boston Celtics in the sixth Game 7 in franchise history on Friday night.

The Raptors have won their last three Game 7s, including last year’s iconic finish against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Raptors Game 7 history:

  • 2001 Eastern Conference Semifinals vs. Philadelphia (Loss 88-87)
  • 2014 East First Round vs Brooklyn (Loss 104-103)
  • 2016 East First Round vs Indiana (Win 89-84)
  • 2016 Eastern Conference Semifinals vs Miami (116-89)
  • 2019 Eastern Conference Semifinals vs Philadelphia (Win 92-90)

What to watch for:

  • Can a struggling Pascal Siakam put it together? For the series, Siakam is shooting just 37.8 percent from the field, and 12.9 percent from three (31 attempts). The good news? The Raptors and head coach Nick Nurse haven’t shied away in feeding the ball into Siakam’s hands, even if it may seem like it.

  • Kyle Lowry, the G.O.A.T (Greatest Of All Time): Indisputably one of the league’s most unappreciated players, Lowry has been forced to, at times, carry the load and pick up the slack. He enters Game 7 with a team-leading 1.2 Win Shares and second only to Fred VanVleet with 17.9 points per game throughout these playoffs. Lowry has also logged more than 40 minutes in each of the Raptors three wins this series. It’s safe to say they’re going to need him at his best.

  • Norm Powell Marc Gasol: Powell is starting to heat up, and that’s great news for the Raptors and their chances. The guard failed to score more than 10 points throughout the first four games this series. The last two? Powell has 16 and 23 points, leading to minutes in the clutch.

  • Finally, in Gasol, the Raptors know what they have. The big man has struggled to generate much offense against the Celtics but he did manage to hit his first two three pointers of the series. If he can chip in with something similar on Friday night, it will go a long way.
