Mayor Tory left in shock when he finds out Dr. de Villa doesn’t cheer for the Leafs

By Cam Dorrett

Toronto’s top doctor and the Mayor have to agree on a lot of things, but apparently not when it comes to hockey.

There was a rare moment of brevity during the city’s COVID-19 briefing Wednesday when the success of the NHL bubble was brought up.

While Dr. Eileen de Villa was impressed with how well the bubble is working, it was her next comment that sent a shiver down John Tory’s spine

“Just to be clear, I don’t cheer for any one particular team, I admit, I don’t watch hockey, I’m sorry to admit that,”

Tory, one of the city’s biggest fans, struggled to mask his disappointment.

“She was doing so well in the management of this pandemic up until now,” he said, “but this is a serious flaw that we’re going to have to address offstage here today.”

Tory didn’t let it go there, appointing a team for Dr. de Villa to start cheering for.

“I will have ensured, one way or another, that Dr. de Villa is cheering for the only team that the Chief Medical Officer of Health for the city of Toronto can cheer for which is the Toronto Maple Leafs,” he said, “there is no other choice.”

No word yet if he’s convinced the doctor to wear one of these:
