A Nevada man appears to be the first confirmed case of COVID-19 reinfection in the United States.
According to Reuters, the case is detailed in a study that has not been peer reviewed.
The study details a 25-year-old living in Reno who tested positive for the virus in April after showing mild symptoms.
In late May, the man developed a more severe version of COVID-19.
A 25 yr old patient in Nevada has a confirmed case of #COVID19 reinfection (48 days apart between 1st and 2nd PCR).
This time, unlike the case in Hong Kong, the immune system did not protect this person from reinfection or disease. (1/n)https://t.co/9gMThBoMu2

Health officials continue to stress that reinfection with the coronavirus appears to be rare.
On Monday, a separate case of COVID-19 re-infection was reported in Hong Kong – the first confirmed re-infection in the world.
This is the first U.S. case reported among the nation’s nearly 6 million cases so far.
