Ontario sees ‘concerning’ spike of 203 new COVID-19 cases

A spike in cases is being called “concerning” by Ontario's health minister, but the reported numbers are being disputed by one GTA mayor. Mark McAllister has the details, and the province's plan to fast-track construction on two LTC homes.

Ontario confirmed 203 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, a spike from the 135 cases reported yesterday.

In a tweet, Minister of Health Christine Elliott called the increase “concerning” and noted that 57 per cent of new cases are people 39 years old or younger.

The majority of new cases are in Peel, Ottawa and Windsor-Essex, Elliott said.

One more person has died, bringing the death toll to 2,753.

The provincial total of confirmed cases now stands at 37,942 with 88.6 per cent considered resolved.
