WWII-era ‘military devices’ found in backyard prompts evacuation near Pearson airport

By News Staff

Peel police evacuated an area near Toronto-Pearson International Airport Monday after three Second World War-era “military devices” were brought in to a Mississauga fire station.

Police said they were called at around 3:55 p.m. for a report that an “explosive device” had been found in a resident’s backyard and that they had been turned-in to the station.

It was determined the devices were in fact “live,” and the Emergency Disposable Unit (EDU) was called, police said.

The three devices were retrieved by the EDU for disposal. No injuries were reported, police said.

Police evacuated three businesses around the Airport Road and Silver Dart Drive area for the investigation. The area was re-opened to traffic at around 5:30 p.m.
