Peel police say they are searching for several “persons of interest” after police were “swarmed” by a group of motorcyclists during a traffic stop in Brampton.
On June 28 at around 2:20 a.m, police said officers had stopped a motorcycle in the area of Highway 407 and Airport Road.
“At this time, unknown individuals also driving motorcycles swarmed the officers to prevent the officers from conducting their duties,” police said.
“The others were associated with the motorcyclist and interfered in the lawful investigation that the officers were participating in by attempting to help the initial motorcycle avoid the police,” said police spokesperson Const. Akhil Mooken on Friday.
At one point, more than 50 people were at the scene, he said.
“The officers performed their duties in a difficult situation and maintained their composure throughout,” said Mooken. “Additional officers attended to ensure the safety of all that were present and officers were able to complete their investigation. Although with some difficulty.”
Police have released several photos from the incident. There were no reports of injuries.
