TTC board approves mandatory mask policy

By News staff

The TTC Board has unanimously approved a policy that requires passengers to wears masks or face coverings while riding the TTC.

Customers with medical conditions and children under two will be exempt from the policy.

The policy will come into effect on July 2.

There will be $195 fine that can be issued if you are not wearing a mask but TTC CEO Rick Leary and Mayor John Tory said they don’t plan on issuing tickets.

The TTC will initially distribute one million masks to those who do not have them. Tory added they will also be focused on education and not enforcement.

Leary said they will also be launching an awareness campaign on the TTC and on social media along with having COVID ambassadors at certain stations to provide education on face coverings.
