4 cats found dead in Vaughan park were likely victims of human cruelty: YRP

By News Staff

York Regional Police are warning people to keep their pets indoors after four cats were found dead in a Vaughan park over a two-month span.

Police said the first report came in on May 19 after a City of Vaughan Animal Control officer found three dead cats in Belair Way Park, which is located west of Weston Road and south of Langstaff Road.

A few weeks later on June 13, an animal control officer found a fourth deceased cat in the same park, police said.

Police said the nature of the deceased cats’ injuries indicate the animals didn’t die accidentally or were killed by a local predator. It appears the cats are the victims of cruelty at the hands of one or more human beings.

“York Regional Police is urging pet owners to avoid leaving their pets unattended outdoors,” York police said in a news release. “If you observe any suspicious activity or signs of animal cruelty you should contact the police immediately.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police directly. Video from CCTV or dash-cameras are of particular interest, police said.

Tips can also be left anonymously with Crime Stoppers.
