Suspicious death in Markham now deemed a homicide

The death of a 45-year-old man, who was found outside a home in Markham on Saturday, is now being treated as a homicide.

Emergency crews were called at around 9 p.m. to a residence on Marydale Avenue, near Steeles Avenue East and Markham Road, for a report of an injured person.

When officers arrived, they found the man suffering from life-threatening injuries. Paramedics were called but he died at the scene.

His death was deemed as suspicious and after further investigation it was revealed he had been murdered.

The victim has been identified as Mathan Mahalingam from Toronto.

Investigators would like to speak with anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area at the time, and have not already spoken to police. As well anyone who may have been driving in the area at the time and has dashcam footage, is being asked to come forward.

No suspect details have been released.
