1 dead, 2 injured in Pickering house fire

One woman is dead after early-morning house fire in Pickering.
Fire crews were called to Fawndale Road, near Altona and Kingston roads, around 4:15 a.m. on Wednesday for a report of a deck fire.
The woman was pronounced dead on scene. It’s believed she evacuated the home but went back in to try to rescue a pet.
Two others who were injured made it out of the home on their own, but the extent of their injuries is not yet known.
The cause of the fire is still unknown.
The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office will be investigating.
