Staff at a Toronto Public Health facility in the heart of downtown are working from home today after eight workers tested positive for the coronavirus.

In a statement, TPH spokesperson Lenore Bromley said the workers at 227 Victoria Street, located just steps away from Yonge-Dundas Square, had contracted COVID-19, although she did not say exactly how many workers had tested positive.

“Given that COVID-19 is spreading in our community, we were prepared for this unfortunate situation,” Bromley’s statement reads.

“We carefully assessed this matter and asked our staff to work from home today.”

She added that the building has been thoroughly cleaned and is not considered at risk.

“Only individuals who have close and prolonged contact with a COVID-19 positive case is considered at risk. We have communicated directly with these individuals. We have also conducted a deep cleaning and disinfection throughout our office,” Bromley said.
