A Toronto man said he felt “disgusted” after witnessing a TTC bus driver playing video games on his smartphone in the middle of rush-hour traffic on Wednesday evening.
Cory Zirk told CitNews he hopped on the 75 bus at Sherbourne and Front streets at around 6:30 p.m. and promptly noticed that the driver appeared to be distracted by something.
“I look forward and see the driver looking down at the red light and I looked at his hand and he had his phone in his hand,” Zirk said.
“I took a little closer look and saw that he was actually playing games so I pulled my phone out and recorded him. I managed to zoom right in.”
The video Zirk shot appears to show the driver continuing to look down and play the game as he drives.
Zirk said the driver continued to be distracted by his phone while travelling “at a fairly good speed.”
“I was disgusted by it,” he said. “Right after I got off the bus I phoned the TTC and filed a complaint. They told me they are going to look into it that they are taking it seriously but I haven’t heard back from them yet.”
CityNews reached out to the TTC and was offered this response by spokesperson Stuart Green:
“We are aware and are looking into it. We will be taking appropriate action. Our expectation is that operators drive safely and follow the rules of the road at all times.”
