Pedestrian hit by vehicle in Ajax

A 56-year-old man is fighting for his life in hospital after he was struck by a vehicle in Ajax on Tuesday morning.

Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Church Street South and Beyly Street West around 6:30 a.m.

Police said the man was trying to cross the roadway when he was struck by a car-carrier turning southbound onto Church Street.

The impact of the collision threw the man into the roadway, where police say he sustained a serious head injury.

He was air-lifted to a Toronto hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police said his injuries are now considered serious but he remains in critical condition.

The driver of the car-carrier remained at the scene.

There has been no word on charges.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact investigators.
