Junior Traffic Reporters visit 680 NEWS for special VIP experience

By 680 News Traffic Staff

Friday, February 21, 2019 marked the first inaugural 680 NEWS Junior Traffic Reporter contest brought to you by 407 ETR! The 680 NEWS team was challenging GTA students and their families, Grades 1-12, to show us they had what it takes to become a 680 NEWS Traffic Reporter by submitting a 30-60 second video reading a traffic report.

It was an exciting contest period, where we received a total of 110 video submissions across 6 different school boards in the GTA over 2 weeks. Two finalists from each age category (1-5, 6-8, 9-12) were selected by the 680 NEWS judging panel to move onto 1 week of public voting! We received a whopping 1,800+ votes among the 6 finalists … but there could only be one winner from each category!

After the public voting period completed, 680 NEWS tallied the final votes and was thrilled to announce our 3 Junior Traffic Reporters! A big congratulations to Sakina Hassanali from As-Sadiq Islamic School, Mayah Abramson from Hollycrest Middle School and Maya Bhanji from Norman Ingram Public School on being the winners of our 680 NEWS Junior Traffic Reporter contest brought to you by 407 ETR.

Each winner received:

  • $500 for the student
  • $500 for the student’s school
  • VIP experience for the winner in the 680 Newsroom – including a tour and feature on-air and online at 680news.com.
