1 dead in Hwy. 401 crash east of the GTA

One person is dead after a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 401 in Durham Region.

The crash involving three trucks happened just after 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

The eastbound lanes of the highway are closed between Mill Street and the Highway 35/115 in the town of Newcastle, which is located in Clarington.

The westbound lanes were closed but have since reopened.
