Toronto police officer charged with assault after interaction on TTC bus

By News Staff

A detective with the Toronto Police Service has been charged after an interaction with a man on a TTC bus last month.

It was reported that on Dec. 13 the TTC called police about a man who refused to leave the bus.

Officers headed to the scene at Markham and Ellesmere roads where the man was arrested.

However, after the arrest the man filed a complaint over the interaction, claiming the officer used unnecessary and excessive force during the interaction.

Toronto Police Service Professional Standards conducted an investigation and on Monday Det. Christopher Hutchings of 43 Division was arrested and charged with assault.

Hutchings, a 24 year veteran of the force, is currently suspended with pay.
