By News Staff

A woman has died after she was struck by a transport truck on the Fort Erie-bound QEW in Oakville.

Provincial police were called to the scene near Dorval Drive just before 10 p.m. Thursday.

Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said the woman had been a passenger in a vehicle but had got out of that vehicle and was walking on the shoulder and live lanes of traffic.

“After being narrowly hit and not being injured, she was struck by another vehicle that caused serious, life-threatening injuries,” he explained. She died of her injuries on Friday.

She has been identified as Heather Kakakaway, 34, of no fixed address.

The truck driver remained on the scene and is cooperating with police.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact the Burlington OPP.

Correction: Police initially said the woman had died last night, but later said she suffered life-threatening injuries. On Friday evening, Provincial police said she had since died of her injuries.
