Advance voting turnout up almost 30 per cent over 2015 election

By News Staff

Elections Canada says an estimated 4.7 million people voted in advance polls over the Thanksgiving long weekend.

It represents a 29 per cent increase over the last federal election in 2015 when 3.65 million people voted.

The advance polls were open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. from Friday to Monday and Chief Electoral Office Stephane Perrault attributes the longer hours for giving Canadians more flexibility to use this option.

Elections Canada says the advance polling numbers are an estimate as not all the polls have reported yet.

Election Day is on October 21 and all the details on how to vote can be found here
