Cat 3 Hurricane Juliette in east Pacific no threat to land

By The Associated Press

MEXICO CITY — Hurricane Juliette has strengthened into a major, Category 3 storm in the eastern Pacific far off Mexico’s west coast, but it’s heading away from the coast and isn’t forecast to pose any threat to land.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center reports that Juliette has maximum sustained winds of 125 mph (205 kph) as of Tuesday morning.

Its centre is located about 455 miles (730 kilometres) southwest of the tip of the Baja California Peninsula, and it is heading northwest at 8 mph (13 kph).

The hurricane centre says Juliette is expected to stay well away from land, and no watches or warnings are in effect.

Some further strengthening is possible Tuesday. The storm is then expected to weaken from late Wednesday through Friday.
