Photo radar, traffic wardens coming in December, Mayor Tory confirms

By News Staff

After what he called unnecessary “bureaucratic red tape” Toronto Mayor John Tory says both photo radar and traffic wardens will be deployed on city streets this December.

Tory said the measures aimed at improving traffic flow and increasing road safety were delayed by the province.

“We’ve had to get permissions from the province that frankly a big city like ours should be able to be deal with on our own, but having said that both (are coming) in December,” Tory said Tuesday.

“We will have photo radar ready to be deployed and it will be deployed based on the advice of police and based on statistics,” he added.

While Tory didn’t delve into specifics, he did say some of the photo radars would be in Scarborough because of a “disproportionate number of fatalities there.”

Traffic wardens are non-police employees who will be tasked with aiding traffic flow in busy areas.
