Teen arrested in alleged QEW overpass sign-throwing incident

By News staff

Halton Regional Police have arrested a teenage male they allege is connected to an online video that shows a person throwing a sign off a QEW overpass.

Police said the video was captured on the SnapChat social media network on Aug. 21 at around 8 p.m.

The video showed a male throwing a large steel “right lane exits” sign off of the Winston Churchill Boulevard overpass.

Police said the sign landed in the grassy area which separates the merge lanes and the right lane of traffic and did not strike any moving vehicles.

There were no injuries, investigators said.

Investigators say they were flooded with calls and on Friday arrested and charged a suspect with mischief under $5,000 and common nuisance.

The suspect was released from custody after being issued a court date.
