Man found critically injured outside Scarborough plaza

A man is in hospital with serious injuries after an incident that occurred at a plaza in Scarborough.

Emergency crews were called to the area of Markham Road and Eglinton Avenue East just after 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, where they found the injured man.

Police said two people got into an altercation at the plaza.

Police said one man has been “detained” but did not provide further details.

It’s not surprising. This is one rough area.

And why the quotation marks for detained? Isn’t it what police do when they want to question a suspect?

That’s the plaza right behind Cougar Court where I grew up. You can see the wall in the walkway between the two sections. That used to be a Becker’s right there back in the day.
That neighbourhood has not been great for 40 years, although the majority of people living there are decent, hardworking, people. There are definitely better, and worse, places to live in the GTA.
