Blue Jays trade pitchers Aaron Sanchez, Joe Biagini to the Astros

The Toronto Blue Jays have reportedly traded pitchers Aaron Sanchez and Joe Biagini, minutes before the MLB trade deadline on Wednesday.

Both the MLB players will be going to the Houston Astros.

In return for the two pitchers, the Blue Jays are acquiring outfield prospect Derek Fisher.

The moves cap a busy trade deadline that saw the Blue Jays sell off a large portion of their pitching staff. On top of Sanchez and Biagini, the Blue Jays have also parted ways with starter Marcus Stroman and relievers Daniel Hudson and David Phelps in recent days.

Sanchez, like Stroman, was originally a Blue Jays draft pick that the team developed into a reliable major league starter. A first-round pick in 2010, Sanchez made his MLB debut in 2014 and became a regular starter for the team in 2015. In 146 games with the Blue Jays, 92 of them starts, Sanchez posted a 32-33 record with a 3.96 ERA and 458 strikeouts.

Biagini, 29, was a Rule 5 pick by the Blue Jays from the San Francisco Giants in 2015. In four seasons with the Jays, mostly as a reliever, he posted a 4.76 ERA with 261 strikeouts.

Fisher, 25, has split time between the Astros and triple-A in each of the last three seasons. This season in 17 games with Houston, he is hitting .226/.317/.358 with one home run and five RBIs.
