36-year-old woman charged in Aurora house fire homicide investigation

By News Staff

York Regional Police say a 36-year-old woman has been charged in connection with a homicide investigation following a house fire in Aurora on Saturday.

Police and fire services responded to a house fire on Edward Street around 1 a.m.

First responders arrived on scene to find the home fully engulfed in flames.

It took firefighters about an hour to get the fire under control. Once investigators were able to enter the house, they found the body of a deceased adult, believed to be a man.

The coroner then deemed the death suspicious and a homicide investigation was initiated.

As a result, Melissa Galea of Aurora was arrested and charged with second degree murder. She is scheduled to appear in a Newmarket court on Sunday.

The identity of the deceased person will not be released until a post mortem has been completed.

Anyone with further information is asked to contact York police.
