Work crews with the City of Toronto are surveying the damage after a large tree limb fell on two cars in the Beaches.

It happened on Spruce Hill Road near Queen Street and Balsam Avenue on Thursday night. The tree limb blocked the entire roadway.

It is not yet known what caused the tree limb to fall.

One of the damaged vehicles belongs to the wife of area resident David Powell.

“It sounded like a crack of thunder sort of thing but not that loud, it was a sort of ‘crrrunch’ and then all our lights went out,” Powell told CityNews.

Powell said power went out to three houses on his side of the street.

He said the back window of his wife’s car is broken and there is a dent in panelling at the back.

Powell tried to inspect the damage Thursday night but couldn’t get too close since the power cable was down.

But he is taking it all in stride.

“It’s gravity and it’s trees … we live in a forest, we love the forest.”
