Two Toronto mothers and a youth have been charged after they were caught allegedly shoplifting from a Pickering grocery store with their children in tow, Durham police said Friday.

On July 8 at around 6:30 p.m., police said they received a call from the Loblaws on Liverpool Road for a report of a theft in progress.

“Two women and three children (between the ages of 12 and 8 years old) were seen leaving the store with a cart full of items without making an attempt to pay,” a police news release said.

When police arrived, the suspects tried to run away but were quickly apprehended.

A 30-year-old woman, a 42-year-old-woman and a 12-year-old girl have been charged with Theft Under $5,000 and Possession of Stolen Properly Under $5,000.

All three women have been released with a promise to appear at their hearing.

The total value of the stolen items was about $1,200.
