Section of Bathurst reopens after scaffolding collapse

By News Staff

The southbound lanes of Bathurst Street, just south of Bloor Street West, have reopened after scaffolding collapsed overnight.

The scaffolding protected the walkway along the west side of the road where construction continues on the old Honest Ed’s site.

Witnesses told 680 NEWS a truck struck one of the support beams that was holding the covered walkway up, causing it to partially collapse. The truck then kept on going down Bathurst.

Residents say part of the scaffolding extended out partially over the street and in previous weeks several other trucks had made light contact with it.

Construction crews are working to repair the scaffolding but there has been no word on how long it will take.

No injuries have been reported.

The 511 streetcar was not running between Bathurst Station and Queen St West due to the road closure.

Bathurst Street reopened to both traffic and transit around 6:30 a.m.
