1 of 7 suspects wanted for threatening police, mischief in custody

By News Staff

Police say one of the seven suspects wanted in connection with an incident involving a Toronto police officer during raucous street celebrations following the Toronto Raptors historic win last weekend is in custody.

Yoel Martinez-Hernandez, 19, of Toronto, turned himself over to police on Wednesday afternoon and has been charged with mischief.

Following the Raptors win on May 25, police say several men jumped on top of a police car at the intersection of Yonge and Dundas streets. An officer tried to arrest one of the suspects but the crowd closed in on him and another suspect threatened to kill the officer.

The officer let the suspect go and got back into the cruiser, fearing for his safety.

Police have also released an updated photo of a person they are calling suspect No. 5, who is wanted for threatening death.
