Toronto radio host Dave (Bookie) Bookman of Indie88 dies at 58

TORONTO — Radio personality Dave (Bookie) Bookman, who championed indie music on various Ontario stations, has died at 58.
Indie88, the Toronto FM station where Bookman most recently worked, confirmed he died on Monday, with general manager Megan Bingley saying the cause was a brain aneurysm.
Listeners and musicians shared tributes to Bookman on social media highlighting his extensive knowledge of music, which spanned his career that included working for over two decades at Toronto rock station 102.1 The Edge.
Indie88 host Josie Dye called Bookman a “crusader of the independent,” who helped build the buzz around acts such as Billy Talent.
The band’s lead singer, Ben Kowalewicz, tweeted about Bookman’s influence, calling him “the kindest soul I ever met and a power point in my universe.”
Dye highlighted the radio host’s interest beyond music too, saying he was a passionate fan of “The Young and the Restless” and “Gilmore Girls,” and would talk about the shows like he did the hottest new band.
