Durham regional police special constable charged with assaulting prisoner

A Durham regional police special constable has been charged after an alleged incident that took place while he was on duty.

In a release, Durham regional police said a male teen who was in custody in March, 2019, accused Chris Silverthorn, 47, of assaulting him.

An investigation was launched and Silverthorn, who works for the Court Services Branch, was charged with a single count of assault.

He was released on a promise to appear in court on a later date.

Silverthorn has been a Special Constable since 2005.
