Facebook will play by Canada's election rules: Will it matter?

Elections around the world are won and lost on social media. Ahead of Canada’s 2019 federal campaign, the government took measures to introduce transparency to tech platforms hosting paid political ads. Google chose not to take part and will sit out the election, but Facebook has opted in.

Will this election look different on Facebook for the average Canadian? How can you take advantage of the data Facebook is making public? Will this actually help stem the tide of hate speech and fake news and everything else we associate with modern social media electioneering? Is it, at least, a start?
