Community fundraiser organized for Bathurst fire victims

By News Staff

A community clothing drive and fundraiser benefiting the victims displaced by a five-alarm fire downtown earlier this month are happening Sunday.

The clothing and home goods drive will take place at the nearby St. Mary’s Elementary School on Richmond Street.

The organizer of the drive says dozens of people are expected to come out with things to donate and the items will be set out for the victims to take what they need.

The Football Factory will also be collecting clothing and other donations during the home opener for Toronto FC if people wish to drop them off. Residents displaced by the fire are expected to gather Sunday night at the bar.

Flames tore through two buildings at 160 Bathurst Street between Queen and Richmond streets on the morning of March 4.

A 22-year-old man died after being pulled from the basement unit of a home. Another person, also pulled from the basement, suffered serious injuries.

The bar was also damaged in the fire.
