Trudeau to shuffle cabinet on Monday

By News Staff

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to shuffle his cabinet for the third time in as many months.

A senior government source tells 680 News the shuffle is expected to happen on Monday.

Trudeau was forced to make changes to his inner circle after Markham — Stouffville MP Jane Philpott resigned from cabinet on March 4.

Trudeau shuffled his team back in January, moving former Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould to the Veteran Affairs portfolio. The Vancouver Granville MP says she believes the move was precipitated by her refusal to change her mind about the SNC-Lavalin case, an allegation Trudeau has denied. Wilson-Raybould resigned her cabinet seat Feb. 12.

On March 1, Trudeau shuffled cabinet to fill the Veteran Affairs opening. Philpott was moved into the roles of President of the Treasury Board and Minister of Digital Government as part of that shuffle. Three days later, Philpott resigned saying she had lost confidence in the way the Prime Minister’s Office had handled the SNC affair.

Public Works Minister Carla Qualtrough has since been filling in.

It’s not clear if there will be another internal shuffle or if Trudeau will promote someone into cabinet.
