One person is facing charges after York regional police seized $1.7 million-worth of cannabis products, including edibles that look like candy.

Police say the investigation began when they observed a suspect making a suspicious transaction at a commercial building in the area of Keele Street and Steeles Avenue West on Feb. 28.

He was arrested and was allegedly in possession of more than $6,000, 400 grams of cannabis glower and documentation related to a Toronto dispensary.

After search warrants were executed on the commercial building and a dispensary on 191 Baldwin Rd. in Toronto, several cannabis products were seized.

The cannabis products include gummy bears, chocolate bars, lollipops and cotton candy. Police say many of the items were not adequately labelled and instructions regarding the dosage were unclear.

“If a child gets it in their hands, they’re not going to be looking at dosages. They’re just going to grab a gummy bear and eat it,” Const. Andy Pattenden said.

The accused, Emil Mikhailov, 42, is facing several cannabis distribution offences.

Edibles are not currently legal, but are expected to be by Oct., one year after cannabis legalization.
