Eat Smart brand kale salad kits recalled due to possible listeria contamination

By News Staff

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has issued a recall of one of Eat Smart’s packaged salads due to possible listeria contamination.

The affected product is the 340-gram packages of Sweet Kale Vegetable Salad Bag Kit with a best before date of Feb. 16, UPC 7 09351 89145 8.

The CFIA says the recalled product has been distributed in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Ontario, and possibly nationally.

The agency says there have been no reported illnesses associated with consuming it.

Consumers are advised to either throw the product out or return it to the store where it was purchased.

Food contaminated with listeria may not look or smell spoiled, but can cause death in severe cases of illness.

The CFIA says symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness.
